Assignment 1: Design Analysis, Domain Name

On your blog make a short list of at least 3 websites that you might want to emulate and include at least 3 screen captures and short text, analyzing the designs. How do you navigate around the site? How is the logo positioned? Style of typography?
Why do you like these sites and what elements would you use in yours? What size in pixels are the sites, what size are photos? Is it scaleable?

Choose a hypothetical domain name for your site .What hosting site will you use for your final website?

Website 1- https://www.valerialau.com/food

The website is rather simple when it comes to navigation and style.  The logo and navigation bar is located to the top left of the page and the rest of the right side serves as a portfolio viewing area.  The self promotion video is located in the about section of the website, although i would have placed it on the landing page.

https://www.stevegerrard.com/music-photography/

The logo is once again placed in the top left of the website but is far flashier than Valerie's.  The browsing bar is located in top and anything below it is a designated portfolio area.  the landing page only shows one variety of photography, in this case weddings, although Steve offers both wedding and music services.  Ideally i would split the landing page into the two category to show of diversity right from the start.

There seems to be a trend here of setting the logos in the top left of the frames.  browsing bar is once again situated on top.  The landing page shows off varieties of imagery from a single category.

All of these websites are pretty plain with the backgrounds and all have a social media area at the bottom of the pages.  I want to emulate the white plain backgrounds but with a yellowish tone to them.  every site here is scalable except for the Jonathan one because of the format of the images are too wide for a phone screen.  I want a landing page that shows off variety of work direction.  The photographes vary in size and format, but mostly 4x5 images. I plan on working on WIX

Hypothetical available domain name :brandontranphotography.com

I want to go for the simplistic white background with a lot of dead space.  I want the main focus of the site to be the presented images and i want to use the white to frame them as much as possible (the site is like a print).  Clean and easy to navigate, very straightforward.  Not over crowded. The main focus of the website would be the concert/ documentary portfolio and have the food portfolio as a follow-up page.  I want the first impression of the website to convey a strong emotion.  Layout: centered images, logo on the top left with a drop down menu below it.  I plan on using WIX for this site.
